The Walking Dead: Season 2, Episode 4

I have some questions for The Walking Dead. The show, not the, you know…walking dead people. Well, actually I probably have some questions for them as well. But enough about me, let’s get to the corpses!

I love how quickly Shane has spiraled into a shambling, redneck, mumbling wreck. Did they really have to change his appearance so much? He’s unrecognizable. But hotter, so there’s that. He’s a changed man; we get it. I mean, he’s going to kill them all at some point. Speaking of, a zombie apocalypse would be an excellent opportunity for a serial killer, am I right? You’d have a perfect alibi.

I realize I bring this up in literally every recap, but…the farmer folk have survived this long without guns? I mean, come on! There better be some crazy plot twist pay-off coming soon. Their farts ward off zombies! They are zombies but with really good human makeup!

Um, in what reality is the well water maybe not contaminated, just as long as they don’t splatter zombie brains directly into the water? The zombie has clearly been in there for a long, long time. Even if not, what are we operating on here, a 5-second zombie rule? Plus, it was stated already that they have like 5 other wells on the property. On the other hand, these farmer people probably already have been drinking from this well, since it was only because Dale happened to peer into the non-pump part that he noticed. And not to belabor this point any further…but we can clearly see the zombie has fresh wounds and is bleeding into the water. This well is a lost cause, people! And no, I’m not even going to dignify critiquing their actual plan, which involved slowly lowering Glenn into the well. Guess what? He almost falls into the well! I seriously never would have seen that coming. I will say, though, that this scene does serve its ultimate purpose, which is to deliver us one truly awesome and gruesome bloated hillbilly zombie death. More please!

Ugh, and this lost girl subplot. Where to start? Perhaps the most obvious question is, why did she not find her way back to the road? It really didn’t seem like she and Rick had walked all that far in the first episode, but for some reason she couldn’t find her way back to the road? I realize she’s a scared child, but still. Here’s hoping there will be some kind of amazing twist when she’s finally found. Like she’s…the queen of the zombies!

Not that I am complaining about the inclusion of sex, which this show sorely lacks, but did it have to be so ham-fisted? In the pharmacy? Well, I suppose it’s one of the few private places, and no one would notice they were twenty minutes late. I’ll give them a pass on this one.

Which brings me to a rather important question, one I’m surprised hasn’t been mentioned yet, perhaps for a future good reason. Are babies born with the zombie virus, and/or would they have immunity of any kind?

Why are some people forced to sleep outside, others in the camper, while still others apparently are crashing in the farm house in real beds? Oh, and on that subject, I have a suggestion for where secret pregnancy tests might better be administered [than in the middle of the woods]: one of the many bathrooms in the house! And wouldn’t Rick be like, “um, where have you been?”
